The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is dedicated to safeguarding food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy. The Agency's activities range from protecting Canadians from preventable health risks related to food and zoonotic diseases to protecting the natural environment from invasive animal and plant diseases and plant pests.

CFIA recognizes the value of scientific work, the value of the people who do the work, and most importantly, the value of the people for whom the work is done. CFIA’s Open Science initiatives aim to maximize efforts to ensure science information is open and available to all Canadians.

The CFIA’s contributions to the Federal Open Science Repository of Canada include open access peer-reviewed articles, with the goal of enhancing collaboration and sharing relevant scientific findings with a wide audience.
