Abstract

Institutional aspects of stormwater detention have been surveyed in 12 selected countries. A detailed survey report dealing with perceptions of stormwater impoundments and the role of government in the implementation of detention is given for the Province of Ontario, Canada. Less detailed information was collected elsewhere. The main topics reported on for all the 12 countries include the extent of use of various stormwater detention facilities, reasons for using detention, attitudes of various action groups toward detention facilities, and the organizational infrastructure utilized in planning; design, construction, operation and maintenance of stormwater detention facilities.
