- Fisheries and Oceans Canada in the Quebec region undertook in 2021-2022 a review of the assessment framework for the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) 3Pn4RS Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) stock in the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence. A review of assessment inputs, including information on reported and non-reported fishery catches, tagging information and fishery independent monitoring results took place in the spring of 2021. The present document supports the second part of the framework review, which took place in May 2022. That meeting examined some additional assessment model inputs and modelling considerations and principally examined a proposed new model for the assessment of the 3Pn4RS cod stock. The current research document presents the details of that new model and associated model results, as well as results for alternative model formulations, some limited simulation tests and sensitivity evaluations for key model assumptions. We also present methodology for model projections and discuss key uncertainties related to projections of future stock status, particularly as they relate to longer term projections required as part of rebuilding planning. Finally, we review the information available at the time to define revised reference points for the management of the stock and to support the development of a new rebuilding plan for the stock.

- En 2021-2022, dans la région du Québec, Pêches et Océans Canada a réalisé un examen du cadre d’évaluation du stock de morue franche (Gadus morhua) des divisions 3Pn4RS de l’Organisation des pêches de l’Atlantique Nord (OPANO), dans le nord du golfe du Saint-Laurent. Un examen des données d’entrée de l’évaluation, notamment des renseignements sur les prises déclarées et non déclarées, des renseignements sur le marquage et des résultats de la surveillance indépendante de la pêche, a eu lieu au printemps 2021. Le présent document appuie la deuxième partie de l’examen du cadre, qui a été effectuée en mai 2022. Les participants à cette réunion ont examiné d’autres données d’entrée du modèle d’évaluation et les considérations relatives à la modélisation et se sont surtout intéressés à un nouveau modèle proposé pour l’évaluation du stock de morue des divisions 3Pn4RS. Le document de recherche actuel présente les détails de ce nouveau modèle et de ses résultats, ainsi que les résultats pour les formulations de modèles de rechange, certains tests de simulation limités et des évaluations de sensibilité pour les hypothèses clés du modèle. Nous présentons également une méthodologie pour les projections modélisées et discutons des principales incertitudes liées aux projections de l’état futur du stock, particulièrement aux projections à plus long terme requises dans le cadre de la planification du rétablissement. Enfin, nous examinons l’information disponible à l’époque afin de définir des points de référence révisés pour la gestion du stock et de faciliter l’élaboration d’un nouveau plan de rétablissement du stock.
