Abstract
The CFIA tested 3,188 imported and domestic food products for glyphosate residues. Glyphosate is an herbicide that is used to kill weeds and it can also be used to dry grains and grain legumes before harvesting. The overall compliance rate with Canadian Maximum Residue Limits was 98.7 per cent. Survey results also showed that 70.3 per cent of samples did not contain any detectable residues. None of the samples of fruits and vegetables or children's food products were found to contain residue levels which exceeded limits. Health Canada determined that the levels of glyphosate observed are not expected to pose a concern to human health; therefore, no product recalls were required.
