Abstract
A broad spectrum of water quality parameters that are frequently encountered in the aquatic environment are discussed in general terms. Seventy parameters ranging from alkalinity to zinc are outlined under the following headings: (a) general information, (b) environmental range, (c) natural and man-made sources, (d) water quality guidelines, and (e) effects on use. A glossary is included to further explain the scientific terminology which is essential to the text. An appendix of "Specific Use Guidelines” draws together and summarizes in a tabular form all the water quality guidelines presented in the text. The sources of the water quality guidelines are cited in the tables and are available in the references to the text.
