La Direction de la gestion des ressources de Pêches et Océans Canada (MPO) a demandé un avis scientifique sur l’état de deux espèces de crevettes, la crevette nordique (Pandalus borealis) et la crevette ésope (Pandalus montagui) dans les eaux adjacentes au Nunavut et au Nunavik. La dernière évaluation complète des deux espèces dans la zone d’évaluation Ouest (ZEO) remonte à 2023 (MPO 2023). On procède à une évaluation complète tous les deux ans, avec des mises à jour de l’état des stocks les années intermédiaires. La prochaine évaluation complète est prévue en 2025. Cette évaluation suit le cadre élaboré en 2007 pour la crevette nordique au large du Labrador et de la côte nord-est de Terre-Neuve (MPO 2007). Le point de référence limite (PRL) a été mis à jour et un point de référence supérieur (PRS) du stock actualisé a été proposé en 2020 (MPO 2020). Une série de relevés indépendants de la pêche et de données sur les pêches ont servi de base à la présente évaluation. La présente réponse des Sciences découle de l’examen par les pairs régional du 6 février 2024 sur la Mise à jour des indicateurs de l’état des stocks pour la crevette nordique, Pandalus borealis, et la crevette ésope, Pandalus montagui, dans les zones d’évaluation ouest et est, février 2024.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Resource Management (RM) has requested Science advice on the status of the two species of shrimp, Northern Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and Striped Shrimp (Pandalus montagui) in the waters adjacent to Nunavut and Nunavik. Both species in the Western Assessment Zone (WAZ) were last fully assessed in 2023 (DFO 2023). Full assessments are carried out every two years with stock status updates in the intervening years. The next full assessment is scheduled for 2025. This assessment follows the framework developed in 2007 for Northern Shrimp off Labrador and the northeastern coast of Newfoundland (DFO 2007). A new Limit Reference Point (LRP) was established and a new Upper Stock Reference point (USR) was proposed in 2020 (DFO 2020). A series of fishery independent surveys and fishery data formed the basis of the current assessment. This Science Response Report is from the February 6, 2024 regional peer review on the Stock Update of Northern Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and Striped Shrimp (P. montagui) in the Eastern Assessment Zone and Western Assessment Zone, February 2024.
